Focus Sustainment Test Directions
We can only exert focused attention to a certain fixed maximum rate and this test measures how long you can sustain focused attention. Mental signal For this test we ask you to see a letter or number (Signal) in your minds eye, that you focus your attention on. We give you the signal in the beginning of the test. When you are ready, you start the stopwatch, close your eyes, and see or think about the shape of the signal, AS YOU KNOW HOW IT LOOKS. Keep the image clear and clean. If you have trouble visualizing, just think about how the signal looks, or how you know how it looks, and sustain that for as long as you can, keeping the image clear and in focus all the time. The signal is always clear and strong in the beginning, but with time, thoughts, sensations, feelings, etc., push their way into your attention until they overpower the original signal, even just for a second. When you lose sight of the signal for just a second, stop the timer and write down the time. Remember don't strain yourself doing the test, it's purpose is not to increase your focus, but to measure it. Do the test three times with three different signals. Go to the test. |
